About Us
The Foundation for Resilient Societies is a non-profit organization engaged in scientific research and education with the goal of protecting technologically-advanced societies from infrequently occurring natural and man-made disasters.

Who We Are

Our staff includes experts with dozens of years of experience in critical infrastructure protection and continuity of government issues. We distinguish ourselves from other public interest groups by the depth of our scientific, economic, and legal expertise. Several of our directors have held senior policymaking positions in the U.S. Government and now continue their societal contributions though private action.

Our History
|
Resilient Societies was founded by Steve Mott, an engineer, and Thomas Popik, an entrepreneur and concerned citizen. Both attended the 2010 "In The Dark" conference held at the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Over dinner, Steve and Tom decided to collaborate on protecting U.S. critical infrastructure, including the electric grid. They recruited an initial board consisting of themselves plus William Harris, George Baker, and Matthew Stein. The board was soon supplemented by Ambassador Henry Cooper, a noted expert on strategic defense, and William Graham, former chair of the Congressional Electromagnetic Pulse Commission.

Location
|
We are located in Nashua, New Hampshire, at the northern edge of the Cambridge/Boston metroplex and in close proximity to its major research universities. Due to our location, we have been successful in recruiting full and part-time staff from Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, and Tufts University.

Our support comes from private foundations and individual contributors. The Foundation for Resilient Societies is approved by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit; contributions to Resilient Societies can be tax deductible for U.S. taxpayers.
